About the role

Does the idea of making cheese for Bruny Island Cheese Co give you a thrill? Well, you’re in luck, because we are seeking two cheesemakers and a cheese assistant to join our small team. There are two cheesemaking roles, one located on Bruny Island, TAS 7150 and the other at Ranelagh, TAS 7109.

There is one cheese assistant position, located at Ranelagh.

These are full-time roles, 4-5 days per week Monday-Sunday with start times at 7 - 8am depending on the site.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

Cheesemaker

• Bruny Island position: Pasteuriser operation, soft cheese production and associated record keeping

• Ranelagh position: Raw milk hard cheese production, with a strong emphasis on food safety management and record keeping

• Operate and monitor dairy manufacturing equipment to ensure consistent quality and food safety

• Accurately measure ingredients and follow recipes to meet a set production schedule

• Cut, wrap, package and inventory finished cheese for sale

• Maintain a clean and organised work environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols

• Work collaboratively with the production team to meet production targets

Cheese assistant

• Aging our hard cheese and the upkeep of our cheese aging rooms.

• This is a very physical role requiring a level of fitness and stamina with lots of repetitive manual lifting of up to 25kg

• Daily washing, turning and care of cheese wheels

• Work individually while maintaining a productive work ethic

• Stocktake

• Cut, wrap, package and inventory finished cheese for sale

What we are looking for

• Prior experience in a dairy or food manufacturing environment is an advantage.

• Experience in and knowledge of fermentation

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

• Ability to work efficiently both individually and as part of a small team

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes and technologies

• Effective communication and teamwork skills

A current forklift license would be preferred, but not essential. A drivers licence and vehicle are required for both sites.
