Role Overview

We’re seeking a dynamic Dairy Department Leader to oversee all aspects of our dairy department and department operations at our Ascot Vale store. You’ll inspire a passionate team, ensure every dairy product meets our premium quality standards, and help grow the department, all while celebrating local makers and thoughtfully sourced goods.

Key Responsibilities:

Product & Supplier Management:
Research and evaluate new dairy products and market trends to meet customer needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure the best quality and pricing. Oversee a diverse and appealing range of dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and specialty items.

Inventory & Ordering:
Place orders based on inventory levels, sales forecasts, and promotions. Use inventory management systems to track stock movement, forecast demand, and avoid overstock or gaps. Manage returns of damaged or expired products.

Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure all dairy products are stored and handled correctly to maintain freshness and comply with food safety standards. Inspect deliveries for quality, monitor temperature controls, and adhere to labelling, packaging, and health regulations.

Sales, Pricing & Promotion:
Develop and implement pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability. Work with store leadership to plan promotions and drive category growth. Monitor margins and adjust strategies based on performance data and market trends.
Reporting & Insights:
Analyse sales and supplier performance, prepare regular reports, and provide recommendations to improve merchandising, displays, and overall department profitability.

About You

• 2+ years of retail management experience, ideally in dairy.

• Proven leadership and team-building skills.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.

• Commercially savvy with solid numeracy skills.

• Passion for fresh food and dairy, sustainability, and community involvement.

• Availability to work weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

• No formal qualifications just strong experience and passion for the industry.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; preferred experience with Smartretail.
